Discovering Niagara's Hidden Gems at Crush on King's Independent Winemakers Showcase

20 June 2026

There's something special about discovering wines crafted by passionate, independent winemakers. That's exactly what we experienced at the recent Crush on King's Showcase of Niagara's Independent Winemakers — an afternoon filled with exceptional wines, beautiful gardens, and inspiring conversations with the people behind the bottles.

As we wandered through the rose gardens and charming gazebos, we had the opportunity to taste a remarkable selection of wines that truly showcase the diversity and craftsmanship of Niagara's wine region. From elegant rosés to expressive reds and refreshing whites, every winery brought something unique to the table.

Here are a few of the wines that stood out to us.

The Juice Company - Cabernet Franc Rosé 2025

This beautifully crafted rosé immediately caught our attention with vibrant aromas of strawberry, cherry, and a delicate hint of fresh grapefruit. Bright, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, it's the kind of wine that defines summer in Niagara. Beyond the wine itself, we also loved the creativity and artistry reflected in the winery's presentation and branding.

Kern & Co - Cabernet Franc 2018

One of the biggest surprises of the day. This Cabernet Franc moves beyond the variety's classic green pepper profile, offering rich dark cherry fruit, a silky mouthfeel, and warm baking spice notes with a touch of nutmeg. Elegant and complex, it quickly became one of our favourite reds from the event.

Inferno Stallion Wines - Chardonnay 2023

Sometimes a wine simply needs a little more time to shine. After enjoying this Chardonnay last year, we were impressed by how beautifully it has evolved. Smooth and creamy with inviting vanilla notes and excellent balance, it's a wonderful example of how thoughtful winemaking and patience can create something truly memorable.

Kimu Wines - First Crush Pinot Noir 2023

Fresh, vibrant, and incredibly approachable, this low-intervention Pinot Noir delivers bright cherry flavours with remarkable smoothness and virtually none of the tartness often associated with young Pinot Noir. It's an easy-drinking summer red that we'd happily enjoy again and again.

Unscripted Wine - Sauvignon Blanc

For anyone who typically finds Sauvignon Blanc too grassy or herbaceous, this wine offers a refreshing alternative. Gentle lemongrass aromas, crisp acidity, and a subtle touch of sweetness create a beautifully balanced wine that's both approachable and food-friendly.

Celebrating Niagara's Independent Wine Community

One of the highlights of the showcase wasn't just the wines—it was meeting the passionate people behind them. Independent wineries continue to push boundaries, experiment with new techniques, and create wines that reflect the unique character of Niagara's vineyards.

Events like Crush on King remind us why supporting local wineries matters. Every bottle tells a story, every winemaker brings a unique vision, and every tasting offers the opportunity to discover your next favourite wine.

We're already looking forward to sharing more winemaker spotlights in the coming weeks.

Cheers to discovering local.
